Another God shot. Dave above is in England and I played the song and it led me to more songs including “I was only 19” and I listened to it at 4:30 AM this morning.I have an editor for a clock and watch collectors magazine who will publish some of my clock cartoons. He is in Brisbane and Malcolm will be quite interested I think in following this conversation. Four fellows from my high school class of 1967 were killed. They were only 18. I curse President Lyndon Baines Johnson every day. 58,000 Americans dead and over a million Vietnamese. If our blogs were somehow brought together, Nursemyra, for no other reason than to shed some grief together today, it has been a meaningful experience with someone on the other side of the world. In Afghanistan, it is not about terrorism or Islam. It is about the opium and $$$. They want my son’s sacrifice for that?!
This is the best Australian anti-war song ever. There is also a great hip hop version by The Herd.
I’ve mentioned this before on other blogs, but when I was in Vietnam a few years ago I worked with a lovely man who had fought with the Viet Cong or “the other side”. He now ran rehabilitation centres for children who had been born with severe disabilities caused by Agent Orange. He was reluctant to talk about the war but at one point mentioned his months spent in hospital with severe shrapnel wounds. You’ll have to listen to the song to know why but I broke down and cried when he said “I was only 19”
Glad you dropped by. Yes, learning to move on is a very important directive in life, but the collective scar is very deep. I think you might enjoy my Sept. 11 post, “Letters to Erato”
Good time to revisit history. We see it again repeats itself……sadly……How about a link to Ike’s farewell speech of 1961 to remind us how we got here??…..
Looks like it continues to repeat itself. Doing same thing expecting different results .Maybe time to let mothers, wives, and children determine foreign policy. With 3 shootings, 3 wounded (including the 1 year old baby girl) and 5 dead so far this month right here in our neighborhood, seems like we need to focus a bit on terrorism right here , huh?
Thanks, ever so much Dave. Would appreciate your continued support in this effort. I am going to go strong and hard on this intermittently well into 2011.

True, true.
Wouldn’t it be great if our governments actually represented their people?

I thought it was to be so in democracies but apparently not. Thank you for visiting my post and welcome your comments.

War is over, if you want it. (John Lennon) Apparently, on a collective level, not enough people are willing to give it up yet.
