See post 11/11/10. My long ago gone yellow lab was partial to spaghetti and meatballs. Perhaps it is because her name was Mozzarella.

I love the thought of growing heroes. Like one of those crystal kits. I wish I could do that. I’d grow my own, and never have to go out and get a shop-bought hero ever again.

They are grown up in Miami much too early. The crack is in the elementary schools and they find out what drive-bys mean really early. But in the midst of it all we are able to smile and find joy in spite of it all. Yeah, I’m sticking to good ol vitamin C for all.

each year my kids get a new set of pajamas, which, like the masses of children all over the country, they open on Christmas eve (gotta look cute for the Christmas morning photos…)

my favorites were the years I had to purchase the next size up of bathrobe…and my favorite after that, one I bought my son with badges and patrol cars and fire engines–we called it “the protector” robe.

Is there a type of “pajama” that magically make kids to appreciate all the gifts they receive?

  With unemployment and such kids know to expect a lot less but they still want the super cool clothes re peer pressure at school. I remember one December when I was a little shorty my parents took 2/3 of my toys to take to the union hall because there was going to be a strike in the airlines and the other kids needed to have Christmas too, I did know much about what a strike was except that my father stayed home except for the nights he carried the signs. We had been through several strikes.So see I was a union man when I was 8 years old! . At Christmas time, buddy.

Mrs. JANE: Here Miami really don’t need that stuff. Went with savings bonds for grandchildren this year, cash for Carlos and Cristina, $5,000,000,000 gift card Mom Barnes & Noble(she reads 8 novels a week) and a retro shirt and hat for Dad from old Eastern Airlines for whom he worked 35 years. I am kind of proud of myself now at 61 that I make sure everyone else gets. For me it’s easy. I really like those stupid fruitcakes.
