Carl, Your cartoon offerings ALWAYS amuse!!! This was THE shoe store when we were growing up, right? And thanks for the “Like” on my latest post with a pasta recipe! Phil
When I seven years old, I was allowed to pick out my new shoes for the first time.
This was major because new shoes were bought only when there were no hand-me-downs available in our extended family. We went to a Thom McCan shoe store.
I tried on a half dozen pairs, and the salesman asked in a slightly aggravated voice
“Which pair do you want?”. My reply was “I don’t know yet. I haven’t seen them all.”
He was very rude and I cried. We went to the Bata shoe store to buy my shoes. I haven’t remembered that in about sixty-five years. Amazing…and best of all I’m laughing! Thanks for all the smiles you share.
:-)) too funny…actually remember that store… when people used to go “downtown”
to shop….as there were no indoor malls in the late fifties and early sixties…geez those were the days!

You are certainly right about the age thing. Very few people understand my Adam and Eve jokes.

Yea, but the only shoes I was allowed to wear were black or brown lace up oxfords. Trying playing ball in those.

If he knew how rude it was to stick out his tongue, he’d feel like a real heel. Or he might just sneak away.

I was allowed one style of shoes for all occasions – black lace-up oxfords. Nightmare on the playground and ridiculed at school.
