Powerful pictures, a tribute to all mothers. Very touching, Carl. I had a college friend who had served in the military, and every Mother’s Day he had a long-stemmed red rose delivered to the mother of his friend who died in an accident in basic training. There was some controversy because he signed “I Love you, Mom” and the son’s name on the card with the rose. The mother had had a stroke at her son’s funeral and was in a nursing home; some years she was comforted by the rose and the card, but other years she became very upset and had to be sedated.
I always felt that the friend’s intentions were sincere and I hoped the rose each year was overall positive for the mother.
when my son was in Iraq I came about a hair from being a Gold Star Mother! these women have my sympathy, empathy and respect!!! I will forego saying Happy Mother’s Day to them…there will never again be a happy mother’s day for a mother who has lost her child!! thanks for sharing!!
… many of my family was killed during WW2 … many tears were shed by my “fore mothers” … because they/ we were not even good enough to be cannon fodder … but considered gypsy scum that had to be destroyed in camps …
Unfortunately life has its dark times. There are political and social issues I would like to address but that is not why people visit my blog. They get enough of that elsewhere.
I have no brothers or sisters so no one was killed. My parents’ family and extended family sent around 100 men in World War II. They all returned. My mother died in September. She was 88 years old.
Thank goodness they came back alive. And for that they all deserve more than a star. As for your mother, I was hoping I will see a picture of your Golden Start.
Still here in Florida my friend. My wife decided to become a big rig trucker! She’s studying for her CDL permit and will take the exam then enter trucking school at Indian River State college after that. It’s going to possibly be another year now. She says she wants to drive out of Arizona and said we should look at Prescott for a home. I’ve been busy stocking my freezer with Redfish from the Intercoastal here. I love blackened Redfish, similar to blackened Dolphin (Mahi mahi).

I cannot do political/social editorializing here as that is not what followers want. But every now and then I can sneak in a subtle message.

I have read about these things. I am not sure which emotion is more powerful: my anger or my tears.

Yeah, no cartoon this time. It is said that in the Civil War hardly a family in the entire nation did not suffer the loss of a loved one.

We do not have one because it is given only to a mother whose child was killed as a soldier.
