I do not like this generalization. Although I agree that texting is consuming the minds of youngsters like me, there are also people within this generation that “do make things with their hands.” I agree that it can be distracting, but technology has also allowed young people do develop and achieve more than what was expected of them. A teenager today can accomplish more than what could a teenager of the past because of technology and how at ease we are with it.
Your cartoon is very funny, but it is also a critique I disagree with.

Actually we do agree a great deal as they can accomplish much more with things with technology and as kids we entertained ourselves with far simpler things but were adept with tools and things of shop class not the keyboard. I honestly do envy the things teens can do with a keyboard or little buttons. Thanks for stopping by.

I never understood texting. It takes forever to type on that tiny keyboard, and the phone thinks it’s being helpful by correcting things I didn’t even spell wrong in the first place.

I don’t get it either. It’s spreading in use though. When I am bidding on eBay auction items they want to update you with texting. Sheeesh, I thought I had it in the bag just learning to email.

The old fool. Does he not wish to keep pace with technology?

It’s hard for us old fools. I still have personalized stationary, envelops, stamps and a fountain pen.

I am delighted you think so. Thanks for the validation.

You also give evidence that parents of teenagers never change either! I seem to have thrown my hands up in frustration many times as well! Somehow the teens always have the upper hand! In this case, they have the upper hand and flying fingers!

Well said. Our only consolation is when they have teenagers of their own.

Couldn’t have been easy to get a connection when texting in those days.

True. Volcanic ash, Ice Age and the crunching of humans in dinosaur jaws created a lot of interference for that radio wave stuff.

It’s funny how the male teenager is peeking at what the female teenager is texting, nice addition to the humerous and social commentary artwork, Doll.

Oh, so true! Technology is convenient and it’s fun, but it offers challenges and distractions, too, especially with driving and learning social skills. Also, when I see little kids playing on cell phones, it bothers me. My kids used to read books. Cell phones are tools, not toys for children. Just my opinion. 🙂

Kids and adults on these things all day. Often I think “Am I the only one walking around with a book?” Teens don’t make things with their hands any more.

even cave children do it…HA!

Parents have complained about their children’s generation from the beginning of time. Historians found an old Greek manuscript with adult lamenting how young people drink too much and tear through the town recklessly on horses and chariots.
