So funny! I recently received a complaint at school that my son was flying a paper airplane around the cafeteria. I gave the school aide a blank stare – I can’t punish my kid for doing something his father taught him and he was never told it was a bad thing to do. Schools are too tough on kids and should let them express themselves more.
Obviously the officials were intimidated by the young man’s advanced knowledge and willingness to experiment in the field of aerodynamics. The fact that he performed such experiments and demonstrations openly before his peers is quite admirable. The young fellow is certainly a leader in the sciences which makes him a role model for young people in demonstrating that the United States must train its school children in the sciences more aggressively in order to be competitive and maintain dominance in the ever more complicated technology of the 21st Century.
In my own case I had an entire air force of paper airplanes which protected the school from attack during the Cold War and am proud of it despite the unpatriotic repression against my efforts by the school administration. In addition my father worked for Eastern Airlines for just over 30 years in Miami and knew our WW I ace and hero Eddie Rickenbacker. Please tell your son how much I respect him and that perhaps he should move to the more advanced level of testing his airplanes in the park and playground so that he will not be oppressed by the school administration.
The cartoon is humor but as you suggest it has meaning far beyond that re healthy attitudes that parents must incorporate into child raising and to understand how parental behaviors influence children often in negative ways. I was a teacher in Miami for 33 years and it was heartbreaking how teenagers suffered in broken homes often with parents on drugs.
My family and I travelled a lot, when I was young … so a new school every so often … I never fit in and didn’t care to either … I remember one teacher saying to my mumme once: “If that cat wasn’t in my class, I would have a super awesome class .” 🙂 Yep, friend Carlos … but I amounted to something anyway … super child, super mom, super farm woman, super nurse … now isn’t that super? 🙂 Love, cat.
Mark gets mad when I don’t give him a 10 but he usually merits it. You might care to visit his blog. He is very funny and I read his book. It was very good.

This made me somewhat sad. Children learn what they are guided from.
