Interesting. When I first saw this without the title I thought it was going to say, “You can’t bribe God … not by works but by faith you are saved.” But I like this too.
Yes, this is not to be construed as the doctrine of grace alone. Just a funny joke as Jesus says to put your treasures in heaven which is one’s spiritual trust or faith as things of this world are meaningless. Our doctrine is salvation by grace alone. But I do ascribe to this idea: grace (faith) not without goods works. James 2:17 tells us :
New International Version
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
New Living Translation
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
English Standard Version
So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Berean Study Bible
So too, faith by itself, if it is not complemented by action, is dead.
Sp perhaps if we live with faith and charity to others that might be a sign of being in grace as it is the Holy Spirit inside us that keeps in His light. Appreciate that you dropped by and for your engaging comment.
“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”
Matthew 10:39 NIV http://bible.com/111/mat.10.39.niv
2 Corinthians 2:14-16
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life And who is adequate for these things?
Good one! We’re offloading stuff regularly and have whittled a lot down to simple necessities. What’s important now is continuing to fill our hearts. Love this one, Carl. 🙂

Wonderful post about this understanding. I suppose we must understand Matthew 6:19-21 with the promise of its joy. Thanks.

Yes, I have reduced belongings and things that I thought I could never do without. Now I don’t even remember what’s gone. Liberation.
