Another great one Carl. You’re really good at this type of drawings.

Something I will continue to practice and learn.

You could’ve put your head on him and I’d have known it was a Van Gogh. He was manic and his work has a lot of emotion. I’ve never tried to copy his work. Would drive me crazy. Good job with the color pencil. Is Mona Lisa next?
January 7th, 2015 at 18:20
That’s beyond my ability. I could do Simpson’s Lisa.

Cool! Way to go, Carl. 🙂
January 7th, 2015 at 18:26
Thanks. I will try to improve doing more practice.
January 7th, 2015 at 16:27
Great job! You’ve got the colors just right!
January 7th, 2015 at 18:27
I tried, but colored pencil is not best for this. Maybe cra-pas next time.

nicely done…you captured the “wild” look in his eyes 🙂

Love it Carl. I love your talents.
January 7th, 2015 at 12:59
Thanks. Good to try different things in art as well as literature, dance, sculpture et al. I’d like to try architecture but I was told early on I was a mere house of cards.
January 7th, 2015 at 19:48
I would love to see your house of cards. I suspect it would be very charismatic.
January 7th, 2015 at 10:22
You seem to have captured his eyes especially well Carl.
January 7th, 2015 at 10:35
Many say I captured his insanity too !
January 9th, 2015 at 10:28
Nah, your you own man there pal!
January 7th, 2015 at 10:01
Why not change the features to become your own self portrait?
January 7th, 2015 at 10:16
I have done fairly well at side view sketches of family, students and collegues. But full frontal – no talent at all.

I did make an attempt post May 24, 2013

AWESOME! Van Gogh is my favorite artist.
January 7th, 2015 at 09:32
Me too although I absolutely marvel at Rembrandt.

Pencils are too subtle for those vibrant strokes, I know, I tried something similar, but the end result is still a good standalone project!

Thanks. In every attempt we learn something new or relearn what we were used to doing. Time away tarnishes our skills. It also helps us determine which art at which we may do respectably and which we should move on from as our ability for this or that is inadequate. It is best we figure that out for ourselves rather than have the critics recommend painting the kitchen or bathroom instead of painting art.

Ah, Carl Van Gogh. Awesome. 🙂
January 7th, 2015 at 08:38
Experiment, practice, learn. Next attempt beard too red and maybe try with paint as I could not attain vibrancy of color, texture and importance of his brush strokes in reproduction with colored pencil.
