True story: A neighbor explained at length with huge excitement that her son had an exhibit of public artwork that had been on display in New York City USA for several years and had received many notices in the news and art-world for it’s exceptionalism. That he had decided to gift it to her, and she was having it moved the several thousand miles to her home (at her expense), and she hoped to have it put on public display in the local town because he had expressed to her the inspiration had come to him while staying there for a summer. Well, it arrived… I recognized it immediately. A fairly sturdy bike rack.
I simply did not know what to say to my neighbor, and she did not know what to say to me. So we did not speak of it. It disappeared a week later and we never spoke f it again.
Our local council does the same here. In front of the museum & arts centre they paid a fortune for some artist to create a huge bolt of lightning hitting the ground, It ain’t even that good. Waste of money
Somebody is getting a kickback to lobby to acquire this stuff convincing the politicians and sometimes the public that such need be displayed to be world class culture.
We used to climb trees and play baseball, football and hockey. We played tag and rode our bikes (without 20lbs of protective gear), we went fishing and sledding etc.. And it didn’t cost the taxpayer a dime.. Ah the good old days.

And we were outside not in front of a key board all day drinking sugar and eating grease/salt potato chips.

Miami spends a ton on this junk removing more of far too little parking but no funds for homeless/drug rehab needs.
