Washington’s moment of greatness in that he knew being there was the turning point
towards the ultimate victory. It was at Valley Forge that he truly forged the myth that became his persona ever after. Good choice Carl. >KB
I find it astonishing and even eerie that the signers of the D of I and the C where all brought together at a moment in time to do the things accomplished. Sure seems like no cosmic coincidence.
If you consider the philosophical state of the world, the European world that is, at the time–The Age of Reason and combine that with a colonial model the likes of which the British had never allowed before, or since, it is more natural that it should have led to discontent. That the opportunity for men of vision and honor and strength of will were so numerous it makes sense that our country was founded in the basic principles of compromise and necessity. That a man like Washington and again, later Lincoln, appeared on the scene at the perfect time is something to be in awe of. I believe people of greatness have always existed. But it takes circumstances to allow them to achieve that greatness. I believe they recognize themselves when the time comes and they are given the opportunity because they have sized up the circumstances and made themselves available no matter whatr the personal cost to them. >KB

This really puts things in perspective when I consider I’m working in the warmth of my home by the fireplace. Hail to our first Chief.

Yes , just reposted amended version. Perhaps that curse I received in that 1984 divorce from ex is acting up. In any case remains a blessing for me.
