The Salvation Army is one of the very few “charitable” organizations that give 100% to the needy… Some of the other “charities” are disgraceful as to what actually gets to the intended people after what they take for “administrative” costs.
Always support the Salvation Army … always have and always will … they have supported me in Europe years ago … they have supported me on arrival in Canada (I arrived in 1982 with my shirt on my back, a faded pair of jeans and $5 to my name) … After I married, I had 3 kids, they were clothed by the Salvation Army as well … that’s some 30 years ago … time to give back. Love, cat.
Besides the Salvation Army, we have a local rescue mission that is very effective at housing and feedy the needy all year round. Of course, I always give to our local Humane Society too. Poor little critters need some help too.
I do, Carl. Many years ago, a farm hand was fired and came to my father for help. It was winter in Upstate New York. He had no food or place to stay. My father provided overnight shelter in our detatched garage and my mother fixed him a meal. The next day, Dad called the Rescue Mission. They took the man in, gave him lodging, food and a job. I’ll never forget them or the Salvation Army which also helps the homeless.
Of all the charities it has the highest ratio of money collected to that actually delivered to the needy than ALL charities. It is also one of the most effective administratively and yet has the lowest paid directors.

The Salvation Army is the only charity I give to. Each time I leave a store, I try and put a little something in their black kettle.

Thank you, Carl. I didn’t know that fact about the Salvation Army, which is reassuring. I’ll make a donation today.
