Beautiful children, Carl. I know you must miss your mother. I took care of my disabled mother for nearly twenty years until her death so I know how close you were to her. My husband was ill for eighteen months before he died at home too. We enjoyed our last months together as did my mom and I. We’re very fortunate to have had those times, Carl. Memories, you know! 🙂 Hope you have many more years with Dad!

So you know. It’s not like the loved one lived far away in Oregon or something. What haunts me in the closing days is how she broke through the morphine fog and having one part of herself already on the other side, by sheer will my 80 pound mother broke through to tell me she loved me a dozen times. And I sing her mantra all day long: “God bless us and guide us through all that we do.” Thank you.

I’m so glad you shared a photo of your beautiful family! The joy that comes through these little ones is the reason we continue to do our best for our families, I think, Carl. I read in one of the comments above that your mother passed this month. I’m so sorry to learn of that very BIG loss. I watch my mother with my granddaughters and at times become so aware of the time rapidly passing through generations that I drink in and savor every minute while we have it. Blessings to you and your family in this time, Carl. Debra

Carl, I’m not quite where you and your dad are, and I’m so sorry for the loss to you both. The void must be shocking. My parents live across the street and I’m pretty tied! Periodically I look down the road, and not that far into the future, and I get a sense of the “future” loss. It hits me with such a strong kick I know I can’t prevent. All the more reason for our focus on the grandchildren and the joy. I do wish you and your dad the best possible. If yo’ve been so directly involved in your mother’s care, it’s got to be awfully quiet! Too quiet! Blessings! D

Father has accepted it well. I was her home care hospice nurse for 5 weeks. For the last 3 days she fought for every single breath and told me she loved me several times and that caused great anguish and that haunts me. She was 88 and I have acceptance but it was agonizing for me, but I am glad I was at her side instead of having her in some facility, We all must endure it one time or another. Appreciate your thoughts. Father is also 88 but I think he has another hundred years left in him.

Nothing scares me more than a Roamin’ Spaniard Sicilian..Except maybe snakes and bugs, oh yeah, and dragons, fire beathin’, big, ugly, green, dragons..Yeah that’s what scares the…. Seriously though Carl, except for the “bearded wonder” with one sock…A fine and handsome looking lot indeed..Your pride shows through.

Ah the one sock. That’s the leg from which they took the veins for my triple by-pass in 2006. The remaining vascular system tends to break down because of added stress on the remaining veins and arteries so gotta keep it wrapped tight with support hose or I look like elephant leg.
