Paul Terry (1898-1971) was a pioneer in animation. He served in WW 1. His Terrytoons rivaled Disney’s work and his cartoons were a mainstay on CBS Saturday morning TV in the 1960’s. 20th Century Fox promoted his cartoons before and after the feature film in theaters . His most likable characters included Heckle and Jeckle which are featured in the above collage assembled by Carl D’Agostino.

Terry Toons were an essential part of my Saturday morning. Especially Mighty Mouse. I was also fond of Gandy Goose. The man was a creative genius. I also liked Tom Terrific on Captain Kangaroo.

Some great cartoons, my friend. I watched a lot of those in the 60’s as a child. Nice memory.

You are much too young. Those of us that attended George Washington’s inauguration remember them well.

Hey, now. I missed the party. Something about diapers clashing with formals. I remember H&J from Saturday mornings with a local telly program which also aired Little Rascals. It came on right before the Bugs & Daffy show.

Loved the rascals. but much deeper is that we have insights into 1930’s life.

Wow!!! Heckle & Jeckle. Now there’s a pair of cartoon characters I haven’t seen for a long long time. Come to think of it I haven’t even seen any Looney Tunes on TV for a long time either.

Giving that little mouse so much power was a stretch even in my child’s mind. Even magical fantasy has to have some integrity.

I saw Heckle and Jeckle cartoons during my childhood. I didn’t know, until now, that they were reruns, as I was born after the creator passed away.

I grew up in England sans TV (poor deprived child sob, sob) but I discovered Heckle and Jeckle through American comic books imported by my first girlfriend’s uncle who worked on US army bases in UK. These zany crows (crows?) were my introduction to American pop culture but I never knew about their creator, so thanks for sharing this…

Even us 50-ish. I used to sit in front of that old square black and white TV box, in my PJ’s and draw with crayons Heckle and Jeckle as they carried on. Think I was 5 or six. So his work is certainly in my psyche DNA.
