Your posts are always good, Carl, always good. I’d like you to know I’ve given you an award in my post today. I’ve put a handful your way actually, for you to choose which you want – http://wordsfallfrommyeyes.wordpress.com/2012/07/15/the-l-word-omg-the-l-word/. It was too much divvying them up. You are worthy of them all (well, maybe not the sisterhood one!), so choose as you will 🙂

Here at home we are so insulated and immune to it. Events and photos should be front page news for every paper in the country every day. People have no idea of the true casualties of Iran and Iraq. 6,500 dead, over 50,000 amputees and over 450,000 wounded or hurt in some way, ailing from disease and who will suffer chronic physical and mental problems for the rest of their lives. Betcha didn’t know that.

No one wants to hear this when they could be watching Hollywood tramp about and dance. This is a broken record. It started playing in Korea and has not stopped. Someone just pressed mute on the remote.

Amen to honoring Vets! Now that they are “coming home” I watch the utube videos and I cry. It’s the shows where they “surprise” their family members. How cool is that! But I have a BFF in another State who served in Army, and her last tour was in Iraq: when she got home, it was like she needed help. So She got it and I know she is okay now, Thank God. We try to talk daily on computer, but since I moved things have been hectic. Thanks for reminding me to just “call” her.

The worst about these wars was never stated until very recently: they were free rides. And still worse: in hourlong talks about budgets and savings, the cost of those wars was never mentioned.
    !!!
This means that the people have given up.

The actual $ cost of these wars is fairly secret here. We do know that Afghanistan cost $12,000,000 a day but is not shown in records as an expense because military operations are not indicated in expenditures. There is one cost about Iraq and Afghanistan we do know about. 6,000 soldiers dead and 50,000 returning amputees.

I still find it hard to understand how war can exist in this day and age. Perhaps in the ‘olden’ days, yes, but why now? Surely we ought to be able to discuss our differences instead of resorting to guns and bombs. I wonder if humanity will ever learn??

One problem is “we will kill all this type of people” Where’s the discussion point? Oh let’s compromise. Kill only half of us(?) I sure don’t want my son or grandson dying for someone else’s politics or pocket book, however.

I am not a vet but served this country 33 years in the classroom. Just remembering is all the dead ask for. So you value what we have. All of us contribute even if it is being a concerned citizen or good parent. During these troublesome times all must bond as citizens and the debt is repaid.

The price was high. I really am deeply overwhelmed when I see all the vet amputees trying to put their lives back together again.

America is too busy chit – chatting on cell phones and texting. Seems only the affected families are remembering.

The perception of America has changed so much that it is now seen as a war monger instead of a hero on a white horse…

Very sad picture. What’s left of the loved one that fought in the war is a lifetime of memories and a neatly folded flag. Of course, since you read my post today, you already know I’d prefer peace.

Unfortunately it must be employed against evil but so many wars were fought over fear, mistrust and misunderstanding and it could all been avoided with a little common sense statesmanship.

What an American Legacy. But, we’re not alone. War all over now and then. Unfortunately since the beginning of time. Cave man with rock break scull of enemy. No wonder so many believed last Saturday was Armageddon. The lord has to be upset at the perfect beings he created taking their free will (he created that too) and being imperfect. One day Revelations will happen. It’s promised to us. In the meantime we sang God Bless America at Saint Rose Of Lima church this morning. I still believe God does bless America but we’re imperfect as all human beings are. GOD BLESS OUR BOYS TODAY AND EVERYDAY
