Long time since I’ve done anything but cartoons and poster art – gotta get back to new things and relearning technique of old things. Need to pick up my wood carving knives again too. Been focusing on grandchildren’s school projects art. I am the best with markers, scissors, glue , cardboard and paint. Note I follow my own advice. Happy 24th Wedding Anniversary. Blessings.

Omg Carl, your sketches are fantastic. Your talent should have been developed and showcased years ago. I would love to see lots of these in a book. I would put it on my coffee table to show everyone … alongside the cartoon book.
Blessings ~ Maxi

P.S. Copying the Masters is a great way to hone ones drawing skills. I do it from time to time, and it does make a difference.

Yes, Rembrandt’s and such – forget it, but Van Gogh’s can be fun.

It’s amazing how similar to the original your beautiful reproductions look, but how different they ‘feel’. Fantastic and very interesting!

Great work Carl – a bold change of pace I like very much (also I don’t need to think up witty puns to respond)…

Plan to mix it up a little this year but you and others are not off the hook for puns and play off my posts as then it won’t be interactive anymore. Not just comments – PLAY THE GAME.

I was much better at this 35 years ago . Lotta things to rediscover and relean in creating this stuf as a result.

Nice job. I used to copy art all the time. It really helped me get better. This one looks hard, though. I used to just copy video game concept art. It wasn’t too hard because the lines were very clear.

Nice work Carl. Very well reproduced. You have a real talent for that. Have you should tried wtaercolours or oil painting?
Tony McGurk
January 24th, 2013 at 19:31
Oops… I initially typed “You should try” then changed it to a question “Have you tried” but forgot to delete the work “should” . And I made a typo with watercolours. The keyboard should’ve known what I meant…

January 24th, 2013 at 21:27
I’ve done oils. I think about 20 hours of pro lessons would help. I think water colors are the hardest of all. I was good at copy as a child. I used to make money forging teacher and/or parent signatures on documents for school mates.

This is stunning, Carl! (I think the plain sketch is better than the coloured version, though…) Are you going to be doing more drawing?

Thanks. Yes pencil sketch better. Think I will work on Van Gogh reproductions in colored pencil for a while. Will value your opinion when I post. Regards.
