Looks like Malcolm’s a bit ‘choked’ up.
July 16th, 2012 at 07:59
That’s gonna be #1 today. Thanks for adding your wit to the post. Love it.
July 16th, 2012 at 09:22
Always love your art, Carl – thanks for the #1!
July 16th, 2012 at 08:32
LOL @ The Onion smoking a cigar. Boys night out, eh?
July 16th, 2012 at 10:07
Yeah, Malcolm’s bachelor party.
July 16th, 2012 at 09:07
The artichokes are certainly “appealing.” The onion doesn’t seem to be shedding any tears over this.
July 16th, 2012 at 10:08
Thanks for making me laugh. Good lines.
July 16th, 2012 at 10:45
Great cartoons as well, Carl.
July 16th, 2012 at 09:30
Well as Stymie of the Little Rascals said, ” It might choke Artie, but it ain’t gonna choke Stymie”.
July 16th, 2012 at 10:10
Maybe Oliver chokin’ Stanley too.
July 16th, 2012 at 09:37
And Malcolm replies, “speak for yourself!”
July 16th, 2012 at 10:11
All in the eyes (or hands)of the “beholder”.
July 16th, 2012 at 10:46
Malcom’s just worried because they’ll bare their hearts. He’s got intimacy issues.
July 16th, 2012 at 11:02
At least he can save on clothing expense. Corn husks are expensive.
July 16th, 2012 at 11:39
The onion had been promised, less layers to peel off = more art.
July 16th, 2012 at 14:53
Yes, why waste time. Get right into the heart of things.
July 16th, 2012 at 14:56
They need a banana on stage to show them how it’s really done.
July 16th, 2012 at 14:57
Hmmm. I don’t know about fruit. This is a vegetable only thing.

Hilarious! Should submit that one to Funny Times.
July 16th, 2012 at 17:08
I have been a fan of Funny Times but they have rejected submissions. But I have learned a lot about appropriate size and 300 dpi and how to add a bit of sophisticated clean up using computer and may submit again. I think they pay $5 or so but what is surprising is that they have the most professional cartoonists in the business appearing in the publication as well as such noted humorists as Garrison Keillor and Dave Barry so perhaps those are submitted with mere reprint rights. Am trying to put together a 100 page cartoon book of my own but digital formatting to printer standards is much more complicated than mere text.

Yes, don’t give up! I submit my essays regularly and have only been published with them once. But I keep trying because I think it’s a great publication. I think what’s important is that you learned something from trying. This writing business can be so discouraging, it’s helpful to look back sometimes to see how we’ve grown and evolved in our craft. Good luck with your book–sounds awesome.

I shall never think of artichokes in the same way again!
July 16th, 2012 at 17:10
I par boil them and then stuff them with paste of seasoned bread crumbs and crab meat with egg as liquid, drizzle with olive oil and cheese and bake.
July 16th, 2012 at 21:02
But you can dip ‘em in mayo and they sure taste good!
July 16th, 2012 at 21:06
I am a big mayo user.
July 16th, 2012 at 23:00
Obviously, Mr. Potato has never seen a banana peeled.
July 17th, 2012 at 00:09
I hear Brazilian bananas are hot stuff.
July 17th, 2012 at 03:10
Maybe not much to see but man does that last bit taste good…
July 17th, 2012 at 23:38
When get to the heart of the matter.
July 17th, 2012 at 08:33
There better be a lot o’ dancers … one dance is all they get.

Oh, I see you have been to the Vegetable Club in Tampa.
July 17th, 2012 at 09:54
Is Malcolm sprouting horns on his head? You know where this is headed, right? Malcolm is getting horny.
July 17th, 2012 at 14:04
He better find a lass from the carrot family.
July 17th, 2012 at 17:51
Not to mention it takes forever. Artichokes apparently like to layer.
July 17th, 2012 at 23:39
July 17th, 2012 at 23:52
Malcom has obviously sampled some hot artichoke dip in his past… ~
July 18th, 2012 at 11:09
In a serious note I often substitute artichoke and spinach dip for macaroni instead od tomato sauce. It is very good hot or cold.
July 20th, 2012 at 02:03
glad to see the sense of humor prevails through cynicism Carl ~ you are a talented artist!
July 20th, 2012 at 03:38
Style is comparatively primitive but I seem to pull it off. Thanks.
July 20th, 2012 at 10:42
I agree – you ‘pull it off’ ~ really enjoyed and the ‘primitive’ can be akin to a Carl trademark with a fun vintage feel. Like it
July 23rd, 2012 at 06:08
Isn’t that the truth, lol
July 23rd, 2012 at 06:56
The people that don’t know about artichokes may not get the joke.
July 23rd, 2012 at 10:55
So true, if I nevered tried your recipe last year and made artichokes for the first time I would not either, lol, but since I know this post cracks me up.
July 24th, 2012 at 16:56
Which one’s Artie, I’m waiting to see him choke
July 24th, 2012 at 18:28
No Artie. These are female. You can tell by the long eyelashes.
