Living through the Vietnam Era that suggestion brings painful emotions to the surface and reminds of the uselessness of being in Afghanistan which by the way supplies 70% of the world’s opium. You needn’t be humble in comments here as your intelligence is easily recognizable by me.
70% opium produced Afghanistan, 15% Nepal, 15% Cambodia. The poppy can be converted into opium for “recreational” drug use, heroin and morphine. Actually there is a world wide shortage of morphine for legitimate medical use. There is too much profit in heroin. Several British study groups have outlined and proposed to Afghanistan, the United Nations and to other international medical entities complete out line to create a very profitable industry in producing legitimate use morphine but that has been rejected because of heroin profit. In addition 90% of the Afghan economy is financed by exporting opium. So it leads us to question the real reason for the USA presence. It is certainly not to prevent terrorism. When we leave the drug lords will vie for control of the country to get in control of the dope industry. So I think there will be a US presence for many years. Does the US want a certain amount of dope to come in to provide employment for 4 million jobs in the criminal justice industry and legal system here? If there is a war on drugs why isn’t the US napalming the poppy fields? Heroin production would be reduced to a mere trickle and be too unaffordable for addict population. Then Mexico and Columbia will have more demand for cocaine.
Useless to whom? Many soldiers there are employees. They need that pay. Many prefer that work to sitting in an office or in a factory. And then: the arms industry. That is never mentioned in this context.
It seems that the US is by now the leader in only one technology and means to masintain that advantage…..
I am a regular Lipton man myself but the candidates should definitely pay heed to the matter you suggest if they truly have the interests of the people in mind.
Political debates are generally a waste of good “Air Time” first and foremost no matter what they say…they are either lying, or dilusional, and secondly, after the decision is made as to which of the candidates will represent the “Party” all of a sudden they are best of buddies and behind “our” candidate 100%. What hogwash, hypocrite is not a strong enough of a word for any of them..
You are fairly correct in this assessment. But helps me judge how quick on their feet they may be. Santorum referred to “that fraud of global warming” Won’t support him although I already voted for him absentee ballot 3 weeks ago. I wonder if he thinks the earth is flat, that the sun revolves around the earth and that the universe was created in 7 days. Any sensible person knows the universe was created in 12 days.
See, now you just revealed a streak of ignorance that can’t be tolerated in any campaign. Everyone knows the earth is an octagon, the sun passes thru the earth, and the universe was created over a holiday weekend. Please. Educate yourself.
I have to be careful not to cross the line between a humor cartoon and a political cartoon. So on this blog I avoid real issues and real people to ridicule because if not the posts become political which is not why my followers visit. That’s why the text balloons contain merely silliness and the humor is about the process not the issues.
Bad enough to vote for “Barak” who ever heard of a “Barak”
Now we might have “Mitt” or a “Newt”
Catcher or Salamander
What ever happened to a “George” (Washington) or a “John” (Adams”)
Now they were normal names not to mention John, Abraham, Samuel, etc.
Let’s vote along ridiculous name lines instead of party lines
President Newt, President Mitt (LOL)

Are you talking about illegal opium or the stuff they use legitimately in pain relief?
